What is the difference between free roaming and cage free?
Free roaming generally means the chickens have a non-caged protective house and access to an outside scratch area. Cage free generally means there are no cages in the chicken house but they are contained within four walls and do not access an outside scratch area.

Where are the eggs produced?
Egg Innovations' eggs are produced on several different family farms, varying in size and amounts of production. The farms are located in the Midwest.

How do you read the dates on the side of the carton?
On the side of the carton there are two numbers. The first is a three digit Julian date. This is a number between 1 and 365 that tells the day of the year the eggs were packed (i.e. 365 means Dec. 31st). The second number is a sell by date. This is typically 30 days later than the Julian date and is expressed as month/day. Some states allow as few as 21 days and the longest is 45 days.

Where can I find your eggs?
We can be found in leading supermarkets and natural foods stores in over 25 states. We will be updating our web site to list retailers carrying our products. If you cannot find our product near you, call our customer service department at (262) 284-1619, give us your location, and we will assist you.

Why do you use plastic packaging?
Egg Innovations' plastic packaging has several advantages over traditional egg cartons. The transparency allows visual inspection of the eggs without opening the carton. The tri-fold offers additional protection to the egg and allows for a stand alone recyclable label rather than an adhesive label. In addition, the carton is made from recycled plastic which does not require the addition of virgin materials, unlike styrofoam and pulp.

Is the plastic recycled/recyclable?
The plastic used in cartons is 100% recycled with no virgin material added. The carton is stamped with #1 PETE and is fully recyclable.

Is the label recycled?
The label also is made from recycled materials. Egg Innovations feels very strongly about the environment.

egg

For what length of time can the eggs be used after the expiration date?
The expiration date is determined by state and/or federal law. If you have any concern about the quality of eggs after expiration date, the safest strategy is disposal. Always cook eggs thoroughly to limit any health issues.

What do you mean by "value-added" eggs?
"Value-added" means that we've taken the old way of producing eggs and made it better. By feeding our chickens better quality, all natural ingredients, allowing our flocks to live in a more natural environment, and eliminating drugs, hormones, and antibiotics from the feeding process, we're providing consumers the types of eggs they're asking for.

How do you make brown eggs?
The shell color of an egg is determined by the breed of the chicken. Different breeds of chicken produce different colored eggs, therefore producing white eggs and various pigments of brown eggs.

Do you keep your chickens in cages?
We currently produce four different products. Each one is addressing the needs of a different consumer group. We are proud to say that we are a totally "Cage Free Company". The products are:

  • Organic Eggs
  • Cage Free Eggs
  • Vegetarian Eggs
  • Omega 3 Eggs

    What is a vegetarian egg?

Vegetarian Eggs were developed for the lacto-ovo vegetarian. These vegetarians eat eggs and dairy products, but require the animals producing these items not be fed animal by-products. Vegetarian chickens are fed all grain diets. This is in contrast to many chickens producing "traditional" eggs whose diets include animal proteins.

    What is an organic egg?
Organic Eggs are eggs produced by free-roaming chickens that are fed certified organic feed. The eggs are certified organic by Quality Certification Services (QCS).
